Peter is senior technical partner for the UK firm of
PricewaterhouseCoopers. Peter previously worked as an auditor in
various locations, before moving into industry for three years. In
1981 he joined the staff of the UK Accounting Standards Committee,
acting as secretary from 1984 to 1986. He then joined PwC, becoming
a partner in 1990. He is the principal author of PwC’s Manuals of
Accounting for UK GAAP and IFRS for the UK. Peter is Chairman of
the ICAEW’s Centre for Business Performance and has been a member
of the ASB’s Urgent Issues Task Force since 1994.
“Although I am a big supporter of accounting standards and GAAP, I realise that they do not bring all the answers and are not a vehicle for the sort of innovation that we need. We need other groups that can initiate debate as to what is needed outside the strictures of official regulatory roles.”
